Tony, What is the difference between the early and late rear shock arms? I threw this question in another post, but didn't know if you were going back there. I have about a half dozen rear shocks and would like to know how to tell them apart. PJ
 
The arms on the early chrome shocks are shorter than those on later rubber cars....from where they attach to the spring perch to the joint.

Are we talking shock arms or shock links? I thought the shocks were identical throughout production but the links got longer?

I just went out to the shop and checked and the links are of a different length. The shocks look the same. Dont know about the valves though. PJ
 
I also know the links are shorter on the early MGBs. Just had to replace the ones on my 80 and the hubby showed me the difference between those and the 64 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
It's the links that are shorter. The shocks & their valves are the same.
 
Yup. Only change (with dampers) was link length, to accomodate the bumper height laws... and consequently raise the roll-center. Yuk.
 
Okay, maybe I wasn't clear in my terminology - sorry....all rear shocks were the same (valves included)...the arms are permanently attached to the shocks (well, you could remove them but I wouldn't)...the links are different lengths.
