Tony, I've Gone to the Dark Side.......

....I'll be buying a '67 MGB/GT.I've been looking
at this car off & on for over a year now.Saw it on craigs-
list last night "moving, make me an offer".I did,& he took
it.
It's light Yellow w/a few imperfections on the top
paint.It has a new battery,almost new windshield,tires,
chrome Dayton wire wheels (perfect chrome),racing seats
(along with the stock seats),wood rim steering wheel,AM/-
FM/CD player,engine pre-lube system,carpets&inner panels replaced,newer brake pads & shoes,stainlees steel exhaust
system.I offered a little over $1700.Sound like a good deal?
I visited for awhile with the owner. He told me that
he used to race a Turner,& lived in the Charleston,SC area.
It was nice to talk to someone who knew what a lot of the
old British cars are!
He also told me that I could leave it where he has it
stored for a couple of months,if I want to.When I told him
I'd at least get a deposit to him,he said "don't worry about
it,I'm going out of town,& I'll contact you when I get back".
He also said that he'd pull his ad off of craigslist (he did).
Do I need to park it away from the Triumph?
At least now I have time to break it to my Wife!

BGT, my bro in law had one when I met him. Now he has a 6.
Doug's goin the wrong way down the slippery slope.

Re: Tony, I've Gone to the Dark Side.......

Leave 'im 'B', Don. He'll learn th' obvious benefits of better engineering and materials on 'is own, I'm certain.

Re: Tony, I've Gone to the Dark Side.......

Doc said it better than I could -- welcome home, Doug!

Re: Tony, I've Gone to the Dark Side.......

Good move, great price. I've watched one here for about four years now, too. Still might make her an offer, if I can enlarge the barn....

Re: Tony, I've Gone to the Dark Side.......

Good on you, Doug.....my '67 is my favorite driver....you'll love it once its sorted out - that is, if your wife doesn't claim it as hers!

Now, we need photos!

Re: Tony, I've Gone to the Dark Side.......

Sorry,didn't get photos - it's stored in a barn.
This is all happening really fast, but I feel confident
that it's the right thing to do.
How often do you find the right car for the right price?
And with an honest seller?
I'm sorry to ramble on,but I guess I'm blessed.

Re: Tony, I've Gone to the Dark Side.......

BGT's are nice. The only MG I would probably own actually.

Re: Tony, I've Gone to the Dark Side.......

And AFAIC the '67 is "pick of the litter". Had one, it was a wonderful car.

Re: Tony, I've Gone to the Dark Side.......

A nice, straightforward car. I love my B.

Change all fluids, grease the suspension and be sure to top up the shock oil (it always seems to be low in the cars I've found).
Check/clean up ignition parts.
Check valve clearance (a little "tapping" is good!).
Clean out float bowls, top up damper oil and be sure air filters are clean.

Then, have fun!

G'luck with it!
