Tony Barnhill - Discussion Thread

Sorry if I gave that impression. I didn't mean to. I just meant that I thought the same thing @158, and like Basil said, it's far from over. After rereading it I can see where you thought I might mean it that way, but I assure you, I didn't. My apologies. I have a BAD habit of not properly articulating exactly what I mean, and sometimes (o.k, most times) I come off as rude. Brain outruns fingers. I would never intentionally imply something like that, especially here.

Kellysguy...I don't think you needed to apologize. I had to read this exchange several times to figure out why you thought you messed. Sounded like a normal conversation to me. Have a great day.

In reference to Tony's last post(Saints Geauxing to Miami), as those (Saints Go Marching In ) I know he will (Be in that Number), watching with the Main Man on the Really Big Screen .

God Bless Tony and Family

Most of us had never met him,and I have not been involved with this site for long, but Tony's name constantly came up and he seemed to be a gold mine of information and wit.My thoughts are with his family at this sad time and I hope Jerri is ok.

I was stunned to receive Basil's email & my heart goes out to the Barnhill Family.

I haven't been that involved in staying up with the MG crowd the last couple of years, but have continued to frequent "The Autoist" website to see what Tony's been up to. Although he never posted an update on his home page, I had been following with interest the build up of the Corvette project (by looking at the small thumbnails), The TD, & Jerri's mother's beetle (I'm a VW guy too)

I've always been amazed by Tony's dedication to helping others & to the MG hobby. You will be missed.

Godspeed!

Sad news, didn't know him personally but cleary could grasp his measure thru his participation in this community. Hopefully Jerri will take some comfort knowing that his passing will be mourned by so many. My thoughts are with Jerri and the rest of Tony's family.

When I first posted to this forum I believe it was " Randi's Rear end. "Tony was one of my first helpful responses. He was my parts supplier, guru ,sold my son a fabulous mgbgt shell, and a true light in my Lucas darkness. We got to turn Tony & Jerri and other forum friends onto Cane's chicken the first British Car day after Katrina. We are all such a family that this pain is physically shared. The man not only coined the Autoist he was the Autoist and I for one will whisper thank you every time I turn the key and Maggie or the Mosquito or even the Snail hums to life because driving an LBC is always a joy & he was such a large part of keeping mine running. And if you are up there listening Im very proud to call you friend.

I am so sorry to hear of this. Tony was always very helpful, trying to help us all out. Even when selling parts I knew it wasn't so much about the money, but helping others and doing what he loved.

Sorely missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Tony and his family.

I like a lot of you never met Tony, but he was a someone that I, we all could count on whenever we had a question about our MGs or needed a part or two. He was very helpful to me and I'm sad that he will never get to see the final outcome of all of his help and guidance with my MG rebuild.

It's very rare in the world today to meet someone who is passionate about something and is willing and able to pass along that passion to others. I never got the pleasure to meet you Tony, but I feel I know you. You are a true gentleman and friend. I will miss your words of wisdom.

Until we meet again.

I first met Tony in 1999 when I had a Rubber Bumper MGB-GT with factory AC and decided to sell it. I posted it on eBay and he contacted me about buying it. He came to my house, obviously liked what he saw, paid me, loaded it on his trailer and away he went. I was glad to see a MG enthusiast get the car and it was clear that Tony was a lover of all things MG.

Over the years as I continued to play around with LBC's I would order parts from Tony and of course go by his place to pick them up, look at his collection and see what kind of progress he was making on my old GT. It was obvious I had sold it ot the right guy.

Tony certainly knew his MGs and provided me with a lot of valuable info over the years.

Just read of this sad loss. Over 300 posts and 5000 views speak well of how much he was valued here.

I was looking at his website again. What a remarkable fellow he was! My condolences to his family. His knowledge and expertise will be missed. He was the Autoist.

I only wish Tony were around for the Super Bowl with the Saints! Maybe he will put a good word in for us with Saint Peter. Lord knows we need it. Miss you Tony.

Please keep this thread for posting condolences for Tony and Family. I plan to print and sent this thread to Tony's family.

I normally start any post with - "Down here in sunny South Africa" this time it is different, "It is overcast in the world of Spridgets". When I first read the news I was horrified, saddened, shocked. I always read his threads as he offered so much insight and humour to the forum. I went to the forum on the hour it was down to mark my respect.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tony about 10 years ago when he had a car for sale and I was interested in buying it. He was a fun and friendly man who showed me around the Garage Mahal and told me the stories of just about every car there.

He was a great source of knowledge on these cars, a teacher, and a fine family man. Like many who met him, I was hoping to get to meet up with him again sometime. He will be missed by many.
