It appears that a Mk 2 Tonneau Rail. Fits into convertible top bracket and supports the tonneau cover behind the seat. MOSS 453-605 R/H and MOSS 453-635 L/H would also fit a BE. Catalog Lists Sprite Mk II and Midget Mk I. Since a Mk 2 Sprint is essentially a BE with a different hood and fenders can anyone confirm for me.

The rear deck is slightly more arched than the MKII. It might not support the tonneau as well.

Why would a bugeye need a tonneau bar?

I don't know I thought one was needed.

I don't have a tonneau bar on my BE. There is a lower bracket that holds the top bow when not in use and the brackets to hold it when the top is up.
If I remember from 50 yrs ago when I had an original factory 59 BE there was no tonneau bar on the car, just the top bow, the brackets that held it and that was it.

Yep, my first Bugeye in 1966 had no bar, just the tonneau. Not to say that it wasn't lost somewhere along the way.

k thanks guys

No support tonneau bar for Bugeyes thanks.

I guess it is not needed since the cockpit is not cut out as much behind the seats as on later cars.

Since we are on the subject...what's the difference in the bars for 1961-1963 and the bars for 1964-1966 Spridgets? One is p/n AHA6011/2; the other is p/n AHA7701/2. The price from the usual vendors (Moss VB AHSpares) is substantially less for the 1964-1966 version.

It is significantly different for the two and they will NOT interchange! I've tried it!

To be clear, I'm not talking about to later rails with wings. I'm talking about the difference between rails for a Sprite MK II and MK III.

Glad someone outbid me on one currently for a Mk 2 Sprite Mk I Midget that is on eBay right now.

When assembled are the rails for the 61-63 Spridgets wider at the base than those for a 64-66 Spridget? I now have two different sets of rails and bags.... that appears to be the case.

Never mind the question above. Just found out that the second set is for a BJ7/8. Certainly explains the difference in width at the base.
