I recently acquired a 64 TR4 with TR6 seats but want to put a tonneau cover on it. The headrests don't fold down. Does anyone know if a TR6 tonneau cover with headrest pockets will fit a TR4?
 
The cockpit area should be pretty much the same. You'd need to get a tonneau with NO fasteners installed, of course, since the TR4 uses lots of Dzus fasteners at the rear, while later cars all used snaps.

Ideally, you might try to find someone with a TR6 tonneau in your area and lay it on your car to check fit. My only concern would be at the rear, not only due to the Dzus fasteners but the capping under them, but I still think it should work.
 
Of course Andy meant 'Lift-the-dot' and not 'Dzus'. But early Triumph owners just like saying 'Dzus'.

I suspect there are some differences as different tonneaus are sold for TR4 and TR4A and there seems to be more to it than just the fastener kit as Moss' white tonneau is 'NA' for the TR4A. Andy's suggestion to borrow a TR6 tonneau is the safest way to see if those differences matter.

I am unfamiliar with TR6 seats... do the seat backs fold forward? If so then perhaps a TR4 tonneau can be used with the passenger seat folded forward (used to do that on my old Fiat).
 
I believe that only the '69 seats had tops that folded forward so that a flat tonneau could be used. Later TR6 tonneaus have pockets for the headrests.

Sorry 'bout that, though. I really DO know the difference, and I've installed many a Lift-the-Dot fastener in tops and tonneaus over the years. Must be the weather here in upstate New York....
 
A little off topic but I've noticed that the fit of MOSS toneau's isn't great...maybe it's just me but their a little to "tight"....good suggestions about the lift the dot fasteners...the P.O of my white MGA had a toneau with fasteners that didn't quiet line up...his Solution? Just drill HOLES in the BODY and move the tack things over! the funny part is that the toneau still doesn't fit right.

Thanks so much for the replies so far. As luck would have it, I live abiut a mile from 'Victoria British'...didn't know this when I bought the car.
maybe they'll let me throw a TR6 cover on it to see if it'll fit. They've been very friendly so far!
 
Well, wait a moment. 1964 cars had no headrests, so the first thing you want to do is figure out what kind of seats you have.

Not just you... my TR4 tonneau from Moss would only fit when I made a slighty modified version of the plate w/snaps that sits in the center front of the dash. I have long suspected that many new tops and tonneaus are patterned after originals which have shrunk over the years. Also, the original tonneaus (TR4 anyway) had a bit of stretch to the material... no stretching the new stuff.
