Tonneau cover worth buying

I'm nearing the stage where my new interior is awaiting my car at the installers. When I purchased the interior kit I purchased a boot cover thus neglecting to order the Tonneau cover. Given the fact I still have time to get a Tonneau cover to my installer is it worth purchasing?

I love mine. I have a BJ8 with the shelf and that increases the storage space when traveling. It folds down to hide stuff. When driving alone with the top down things on the seat don't blow away. Best of all its easy to just zip up and leave the car for a while. (Keeps the seats cool and curious out). Consider the need for detachable seat belts to thread through the holes in the tonneau as needed.

I'm going with 3 point harness setup on my BJ7 but with what you say a cover could be a pain in the butt with this setup?

Not at all. The three point detachable that Moss sells just unhooks at the floor by the door and quickly threads through the hole provided in the tonneau. Check the Moss cataloge to see the picture of the hook. Very simple and easy.

Hi MP,

I have a three point belt on my BJ7 and like the tonneau cover for the reasons TH pointed out. However, even with the quick release mounts it is a pain to thread the shoulder belt through the tonneau everytime if you do a lot of short trips. I adjust the tonneau (fold it under) where the strap contacts the tonneau and it doesn't bother me. I'm about 6 foot tall and fairly thin so different body types and seat belt types/mount points will probably affect the 'comfort level'.

Cheers,
John

I purchased a new tonneau when I bought my BJ8 and love it. I always cover the interior with the tonneau when I park the car. It will keep the interior, especially the wood dash in good shape. I also have the hook seat belts and it is easy to slip the belt through the tonneau, although many times I just let the belt go around the tonneau.

I like driving alone with the passenger side covered. And as Shorn said, nice to cover the interior when parking.

Thanks for the input!

I've gone with the LUKE 3 point harness that Cape International sells. I'm quite sure that this particular set is fastened permanently without the quick release such as with the Moss set. So tucking the Tonneau cover behind sounds like it would be the answer.

I can really see how a tonneau cover would be an asset on any pre BJ model given the complexity of raising the top. So I guess I was really looking for input from BJ owner's who's convertible tops go up that much easier.

Mine was purchased from Moss. Good quality. You must install the snaps yourself, as the position depends on where the studs are installed on the car. Apparently they could vary slightly. Install on a warm day to stretch the tonneau.
