Do the longest pieces first. Then when you screw up you can use the remains for the smaller pieces and when you screw them up you can use those remains for bookmarks and kindling.

I cut it three time and it is still to short!!

(I recall your advice from my model airplane building days - thanks for the reminder!)
 
Been gradually replacing it through the house, never liked that 1960s tiny painted style, I prefer a natural wood look. Have all but a couple bedrooms done. One thing I've learned is that corners that look square rarely are requiring "adjustments" to miters to get a reasonable fit. And I now cope the inside corners rather than miter as it helps keep a tighter joint as the wood expands/contracts.
 
This remnds me - I had a bunch of baseboard I stil need to install from after I installed oak flooring throughout the house. Started on the baseboards, but got distracted with other things and never got back to finish it.
