Tonights question - sock filter

I bought a new sock filter for the gas tank from Amazon as they are unobtanium elsewhere. If you look at the pic it is fairly obvious that the hole is too big for the pipe. I am looking for suggestions as to how to connect them.

1) I do have a rubber grommet that will work - it will fit in the hole (slot) and fit on the pipe - my fear is that it will perish in the tank.

2) I could wrap it with metal and solder it all together - it would be messy but it would work.

any other ideas?

JP, my 1986 Ford Ranger pickup takes a sock filter and last year I replaced the gas tank and sending unit with a new sock filter, the fuel line hole looks smaller than yours. Not sure how to remedy your problem.

hmm, interesting.... any chance you could pull your tank and check the diameter? :jester:

seriously this is helpful information as I thought the one I bought was a one off (Amazon) didn't realize they were still available elsewhere - they aren't that expensive so if I don't get a solution, I could take a look around. thanks!

How about taking a piece of thin sheet metal to fit the approximate inside diameter of the large fitting and either drill or punch the correct diameter for the pipe. After making sure things fit, then epoxy the sheet metal onto the sock filter..... Just a thought.

The one in the Ranger has a soft plastic ?? sleeve for the pipe to slide into, it is tapered so it's easy to slip on the pipe but hard to pull off. If you go on the net and type gas tank sock filter, some should pop up with photos and you should see one with the plastic "gripper-seal" I'm talking about. PJ
