So, this morning was grabbing milk out of the fridge and brushed my arm on the side of the fridge. (Actually the middle - it is a side by side) It was hot to the touch - not warm - Hot! the freezer read 24 deg but everything was still frozen. Quick Google and discover that these are the symptoms of dirty coils and/or a broken fan. After church, took off the back, fan looked good. Took off the front - probably a pound of cat hair/dust bunnies covering the coil. cleaned it off, wiped it down and all is well again. Temp back to zero (Celsius) and everything works as it ought. I love simple (and free) solutions. It's also worth checking from time to time - I honestly couldn't believe how much stuff had gathered (especially with pets) and I know the efficiency must have been impaired for some time.

I use old dryer sheet across the grate to catch the hair. Free air filter.
 
Our house rabbit used to lie in front of the
refridgerator.Did you know that the long rod from an
MGA works perfectly at removing rabbit fur from the coils?

Now that I've read that, I just know I'd better get busy and clean out ours.

I hate replacing domestic appliances. In the last year we've replaced fridge, range, clothes washer and dryer. They need to last the duration.
 
Meanwhile Kelly's aunt's old HotPoint kid killer still humms right along.
