Bruce,

Your post got posted twice - FYI.
Our oldest has one,& he loves it.I,however
wasn't impressed.
We went to a British Car show at Lilypons-
-Gardens,in Western Maryland,coming from the
Annapolis,MD,area. When we got fairly close to
the event,it had us going North instead of South.
I think I'll stick with my old-fashioned maps.

Thanks for your input. North vs south seems like a rather major mistake!!

I guess my other post was deleted. Somehow it got here twice. My mistake.

I on the other hand have been very impressed with mine in the US, Canada and the UK. It's not perfect, especially when comparing a route to your own local knowledge; however you have it for areas you don't know. I think that the Garmins do POIs better, but TomTom have recently improved in that area as well.

I think I'd get one of the Garmin units instead of the TomTom (although I love their commercials - Sue Sue should I turn here).

I can't speak to the Tom Tom, but I did a lot of research before I bought one and ended up with the Garmin Nuvi 680. No regrets so far.

Garmin nuvi!!!! Have used it all over the country, and it works great.

~Garmin Nuvi 200~ .

Amazing!

Our's was about $150 and I would guess that if you travel a fair amount (as we do, to races), it will save a good amount of that back in gas pretty quickly. We *never* get lost anymore.

Nice simple interface too.

For me and Lin it also reduces stress on a trip.....we just enjoy the trip and let "GPS woman" (our name for the voice) tell us where to go. Plus we don't have to refold any maps!

We just went to New Hampshire with it last weekend (see my post on vintage racing) and it got us perfectly to the track and even found local restaurants for us.

Highly recommended.

I have been using my "Shirley". I get all kinds of directions.

Yeah, my wife tells me where to go all the time, as well.

My usual method is "I.F.R." As in: "I Follow"...

...Horsemits' first name starts with an "R", BTW.

I have built in Nav systems in both Fords. I bought a TomTom series 3(?) from Costco for $129 a month ago for the TR6 road trips and it works just great, even in bright sunlight with the top down.

Yeah, there was ONE day this month like that and I got to try it out.

Another vote for the Nuvi; my wife loves it. My 8yr old is in charge of programming it; it's that easy to use.

The rental car I have in Poland came with a TomTom; it's not bad either.
