Does anyone know how these work? Is this spring loaded in any way or does work by providing a fixed pressure on the sector shaft to keep the peg firmly in the cam (worm gear)?
The early TRs (2 & 3) have a steering system almost identical to the TC steering box, however theirs have an adjusting bolt built in to the steering box cover. Some people have fabricated a spring loaded adjuster that keeps the peg firmly in the cam from lock to lock to lock and minimizing play in the steering wheel. Since the cam tends to wear in the center (straight ahead) a tight fit there often means an overly tight fit when turning to the point that the turning radius may be reduced.
I'm wondering if the Tompkins kit is similar to the TR3 steering box cover or more high tech.
