Who knew. [/QUOTE]

Every one I sell to my customers does!! hehehehe

Doc, I too usually let them settle in before installing the inside snaps.

Pat

You get 'em from Robbins directly? I used to have their number, would talk to the "Ol' Man" every time... they moved, son took it over, all "corporate" now. Always got the tops for clients, my Elan and MGs directly.

...I miss the "Old Days". /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

There's -some- reason the inside fasteners will be done t'morrow... just can't seem to recall, err... OH! YEAH! A day or two in the Florida sun!

...and I get MORE CABs deliver'd, too!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif Seriously Doc that installation would make a great addition to the knowledge base.

I usually measure the front
make it 3/8" shorter
attach it to the bow
then step on stand on top to shut /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif well that happend once, when I went for a bit more then 1/2"

it has always strecthed out fine and stayed real tight.

do you apply a similar approach or is that a yankee variation.

No, in addition to being a Moss, Victoria British, & Engel distributor - I get my tops from Keystone Bros in Atlanta where I have a distributor account.

I need to pay closer attention to this....we'll probably be doing a top on Dad's B next summer. Hafta get a new frame first, though.

Snaps already installed? That's where I ran into problems on my old Midget. Will need to look into that next summer.

I'll buy you two kegs of CAB to get me motor running, through all 4 gears (inc OD) and stopping by use of the brake pedal!
Nice work BTW.

Bad news, Barry. The caveat: Ya gotta bring ME th' bits 'n pieces, along with th' CAB. I'd be honoured to screw it all together, tho. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I can't leave the yard, y'see... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Yeah, I'll load up the motor with a coupla crates, tell the missus I'm heading to FLA, you think she'll still be home when I get back? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

yea, bring it on down, I need something to do. Miss Agatha is puring like a kitten.

Placing the Lift-a-Dot fasteners and the snap fittings is baby poo simple with the proper tools. The real challenge is stretching the top properly, centering it and getting the header rail seal in the channel all the way across. This header rail had been horribly botched: oversize screws held the channel rail, DPO had GLUED(!) the seal to the rail after giving up getting it into the channel. We had a new aluminum channel and had to drill new 1/8" holes and pop-rivet it into place. Seal was installed today, all snaps and fasteners now in place. in a few days we'll readjust the tension on the header rail hold-downs and do the "fine tuning".

Some additional tools and supplies required:

Weldwood Contact Cement (best stuff on-planet for this job and upholstery work, IMO).

Lift-a-Dot die.

Conventional button snap anvil kit.

POPSICLE STICKS!

Clear silicone sealant/adhesive.

1'8"x 1/4" pop rivets (I prefer stainless) and gun.

Copious supply of CAB (optional). /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Julian, have you considered a SawzAll?
Jeff

No, it's just the way my trousers hang.

But seriously: what is a SawzAll? Is it like a can-opener?
