Went up to Eagle Rock,VA,then took back roads to Highway 43.
43 is about 17 miles long (from Eagle Rock to Buchannon).

Doug - that is fantastic driving country! Looks a lot like rural southern New England.

Wish I knew the history of that old house - the door lights and side chimney look like Civil War era.

Yeah,I thought it was interesting.
Unfortunately abandonded,with "NO TRESSPASSING"
signs.
 
There is a place named Burke VA North of you Doug that had amazing tree covered winding roads along side creeks. Also lakes to go fishing in. After I moved to California, a planned community of 80,000 was built there. The lake still exists, but way too many homes now to really have fun I'd guess.
 
Pretty country down there. I used to visit my late brother in Charlottesville. He passed away last Fall. He would have been 85 in February. Had an MGA as a student at UVA.
