I had my posterior handed to me on a plate today, by a 24 year old...
A Frigidaire clothes washer. Bloody thing has worked for us from about '93 'til yesterday evening. Got it for free from a neighbor with more money than sense. It needed a lid "safety" switch. Bypassed it and 'smits knows better'n to shove her arms into a runnin' washin' machine.
This AM pulled off the front access plate and see the belt was toast. Rearranged the piles in the garage (that's where the laundry machinery lives ATM) to accomodate pulling the beast away from the back wall far enuff to get at it from behind (MWUUHAAHAAAA!)... Liberal Weasel Pi** and STILL snapped off one of the 10-32 screws holdin' pump to motor with four threaded spacers.. Not a good start to the exercise. Got all apart, with old belt in hand begin wandering the streets in search of replacement. First to a local used appliance house, no joy. Then to the local Marcone parts supply place. Belt, $16. If I wanted to replace the pump it'd be another $50 (fat chance!), the "spacers" were NLA (huh?), screws would be $4.95 apiece!! feh. Just bought th' belt. Next, off to the Friendly Fastener House fer half a dozen stainless 10-32x 1.75" screws. Nope! No got. Home Despot next, some cheezy 10-32 whatever in a four-pack for $3. Back to th' hovel. Drilled/tapped the spacer, hung the belt and pump assembly back on. This was done on my back and side, hoppin' up and down for tools, etc. From 0900 'til 1830 messin' around with this monstrosity.
:madder:
Bottom line is, the agitator now churns like it's posessed. But the barrel doesn't spin... it's the gearbox. UGH. Something internal to the thing has jammed/snapped/worn.
I'm not inclined to go further with it, thinkin' on findin' Herself a nice big rock near th' creek.
