Last night I picked the head up from the machine shop and spent some quality with the owner. Sadly, I did not have my camera with me. But he is documenting every step.
He showed me his solution for the thrust washers, using Scott Helms thicker bronze units (ala Tom), the line boring was completed yesterday and the cam bearing journals would be cut today (5 hours on the machine, minimum), After I get the disk from his camera, I will post what we decided to do and what I learned about thrust washers, crank journal radius issues and getting oil to both of them properly. We've definitely strengthened a weak spot, but the engine has to be out of the car and at a very good machine shop to do it.
Next stop is the cylinder boring, final deck resurfacing and complete bath in hot soapy water under pressure. Every bolt thread has been cleaned and bottom tapped, and the parts are all there for the assembly of the short block. The flywheel, clutch and damper should have been balanced today.
Hopefully, Bob will be building by Friday and I'll pick the assembled short block up on Sat or Mon. Erik will be waiting to paint the block final assemble all of the parts that I've cleaned, rebuilt or purchased new.
I keeping my fingers crossed for a lot of driving next weekend to get ready for the British Car Circuit the spring and summer.
