Today Is A Miracle

Indeed, everyday is a miracle. I angst over this post but thought. 'why not?"

Last Thursday I had what I called a heart event. Went into the emergency room of the local Heart Hospital with a blood pressure reading of 248/182 and heart rate of 92. Needless to say I got hooked up to all sorts of stuff. Bottom line I was stabilized and transferred to the normal hospital across the street as there were no available beds in the heart hospital and surgery was not indicated at the time. Interesting ambulance ride.

It would seem that a total change in meds was necessary and all that I have been on for probably 20 years was no longer working. I bit the bullet as there was no heart muscle damage but did bruise my kidneys which are mending. No damage as a result of the event. More importantly as a side effect it was discovered I had chronic pneumonia which accounted for my shortness of breath, dizziness, balance loss and related extreme exhaustion. For the past year I have planned my life around those good days and didn't want to admit my poor health as I was sure it was related to my heart valve problem and I wasn't ready to deal with it. Good news is there is no permanent damage and I am again feeling normal.

Conclusion - Self diagnosis is just a another definition of insanity and yes today and everyday is a miracle.

P.S. I was discharged on Monday and home has never been so welcomed. I have no restrictions and it is good to be normal.

Great news... go take Agatha for a drive.

I have a friend whose wife was diagnosed with high blood pressure probably over 20 years ago.
She just kept taking the pills, the doc kept renewing...and nobody did any follow-up....and the BP got so low she almost died and then spent weeks in hospital getting somewhat stabilized.
No self-diagnosis or self-medication.

Let's be careful out there.

Judy - wow, so glad to hear you're on the mend.

What was the "self diagnosis" you mentioned?

We have to remember that we all are just visiting here, regular check ups, listen to your doctor and being kind to your health will make it last a long time. Be well, take care! :encouragement: PJ

Dammm Judy! Pay attention to what your body says!

And pleased you're here, able to relate the survival.

Yikes! Glad to hear you're back to normal! Get out and drive Agatha!

Glad to hear that you are doing better.

Regarding BP meds. I was taking Cosar for years and had a dry hacking cough. Bad enough that a friend once said "pity you don't smoke then you could cut back to help your cough"
At my physical the prescribing Dr. said try water as an expectant, try this inhalator it may be asthma. Changed to a new Doctor and when I mentioned the cough she said that is a well known side effect of Cosar. Changed BP meds and the cough was gone in 5 days.
Sometimes a new Dr. is brings a new perspective on your case.

Wow that is scary BP. Glad to hear you are all right now.

Miracles are good. Happy to hear about yours!!!

Second opinions are valuable, somehow doctors don't like them - insurance companies much less.

Tom, my self diagnosis was blaming my respiratory symptoms on a heart valve problem that I just didn't want to deal with. Turned out my heart valve remains stable and my lack of energy, shortness of breath, dizziness, etc was actually pneumonia which I have probably had since the first of the year when I had self diagnosed as the flu. All is being treated and I have no restrictions. I am indeed lucky

Thanks for your good wishes and I am very appreciative.

Judy, that's pretty scary stuff, I'm happy to hear that you are recovering well though.
