Re: To Twit or not to Twit. What the heck is Twit
I have really avoided getting involved in all the "facebook, myspace, twitter" stuff until this year. About four weeks ago, I set up my facebook page. Within two days my best friend from high school who is in San Francisco now found me. Another friend who is living with her "significant other" and running a bed and breakfast off the coast of Malta was next. Then our best man from our wedding and a host of other friends that I had lost touch with over the years. Cool!
Several of my students have found me and I have found that I can set up weekly topics of discussion among my students who have found me. Its kind of cool. They can ask questions about homework and discuss articles and science sites we find on-line. I can restrict members and only allow "friends" to join certain groups.
So far about 60 of my students joined as soon as they knew about my page and its interesting (I did warn them that I would be looking at their pages too...so be prepared for "mom" to step in if you are posting things that you don't want me to know about! At least one adult is watching what some of these kids are saying and doing)
I have also accepted several of my parents to my site. They can add to the discussion or just "lurk" I can really see some potential as an access to communicating with my students in a new and different way....I'll keep y'all posted as this develops through out the next school year.
