To paint , or not to paint?

After all the scores were in My NOS water pump was a total wash out, non-fixable so its new pump time. I have one and am waiting for a new pully to show up. Since I am starting with all new parts (2) my question is, should I paint them or run them as is. The Judging Standards gives you a choice here. It would be quicker to just slap them all back together and move on but, I am wondering what the thoughts are on this one.

Your ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Tink- I bet deep down if you don't paint it you'll probably second guess yourself later. So yes I'm pro-paint as well!

I'm sure you'll paint it black, so just do it. You'll be happier with that than with rust two years from now.
 
Don it was supposed to be an NOS part. All it was was just OLD. Glad I didn't pay much for it. First time I really got hammered on Ebay. I checked it when I recieved it and it looked fine but you really can't see the interior, so I was going on faith. In this case Not Good!

You are all correct everything else is all nicely painted I'd be foolish to not paint this pump and pully.

Kinda figured that. I don't figure a lump of rust beside all the other shiny parts would look all that swell!

I say paint the bugger but Frank there has bragging rights by virtue of his wonderful restorations so his suggestion on clear coat is not one I'd argue with either. Your choice now.

I have no comment or suggestion about whether or not to paint a discrete part like this. I have a very general question.

In the factory, did Standard/Triumph paint the pieces of an engine prior to assembly or did they assemble the engine and then paint it?

Ya know, clear coat has a certain appeal. Have to give that some thought Frank. I have time because I have to wait for the pulley any way. I'm going to work on the seats during the wait period.
