TR6 To buy or not to buy

I've been looking at a 76 TR6 for sale very cheep. It would be a shame to part this out but it's worth a whole lot more parted out. I could use the cash for my next project. I've looked at this car three times now and can't seem to bite the bullet. Car has to be gone by the end of the month because the business owner has sold the property. In AZ it would cost around $300.00 to have the car inspected and given a salvage title.

The bad
Car has been baked in the AZ sun for a long time
Engine is completely disassembled and scattered about
complete front and rear suspension has been removed, so the car must be lifted
Trans and diff removed
no seats or carbs
No OD
all parts unmarked (nuts and bolts)
been off the road since 1984
interior and dash are shot, speedo and tach would need repaired
already have three cars in my three car garage. I could get fit it in but it would be tight
NO TITLE

The good
car looks to be 95% rust free
rust free frame, no damage or cracks can be seen
no signs of accident damage
all trim is present
only rust damage is to the battery box area
left rear fender in the back corner had one bubble that may hide some rust
front and rear bumpers very good shape, no dents or rust, chrome would need redone, not so for the over-riders
panel fit is as good as the factory did
No dents in the body, looks like yellow factory paint all around

What would you do?

IF such a car magically appeared up here in the Northeast, I'd be on it in a New York Minute! :D At worst, the relatively rust-free nature of such a rolling shell would make for a perfect recipient of...well...everything else needed from a typically rotted away Northeast rust belt car!

I just coerced my friend to buy a 4a in somewhat similar state. as a flip opportunity you probably can't go wrong either selling whole or parting out - but while parting out can make more I think it's much more work too

get a title and pass it along.
Aye, there's the rub... What is the story in Arizona re: buying/selling a car without a title, and is it worth your while...

If there were still an attached VIN then somebody could get a good title for it somehow. Until then you have a lot of dead car to drag around so unless the body / chassis were really nice and it were free , I couldn't get too excited.

Still not sure if I'm going ahead with the purchase or not. Sunday will help me decide what to do. In conversation with the owner of the TR6 he told me about some other cars for sale. Going to look at a property that has over 80 cars on it for sale, 4 E-types and other Jags, 8 Porsches, 6 GT6s and who knows what else. I will try to get some pictures if I can.

That will require a note from your wife, written approval from your HOA and your discharge papers from the asylum.

Keith,
Glad you are far away from me. I'm trying to be alittle more selective but if an E type is mentioned I' m usually sitting on the edge of my seat.

George, Marv I've got my fingers crossed on this one. I hate to venture away from Triumph's but an E-type has always been on the top of my list. I have an other car on the burner but I promised to keep it confidential. Between the Jag and the other car I hope the other car happens.

George you maybe right and I am crazy. I should buy the property with all the cars a screw the HOA.

And me as well.. If that property can be seen by other tire kickers who will be passing by your area soon please let me know!

Randy I don't think the seller would be receptive to a group of people looking at his stuff, very reclusive. Me and my friend were questioned at length before we were allowed onto the property. No way to see the good stuff from the road, all in a large garage type building. He has four very solid e-types with minimal rust but three of them are gutted and the series 1 roadster has a Chevy V6 in it. The other cars are series 2, 0ne roadster and 2 coupes. The Porsches were highly modified Pep-Boys style cars or rusted hulks sitting out side.

He would like to sell all the Jag stuff together but might sell just one car for the right (high) price. It would be tough for me to get him to let anybody else over to see the cars.

Not a problem Keith, we wouldn't be buying anyway - but of course you are free to pick something up soon so we can look at what you get!
