To brake or not to brake, that is the question?

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing end them?

Okay, so we just got home from Shakespeare in the Park, what can I say? Besides, if the shoe fits...

No Binabox today. Chuck & John took her out for a test run, brakes locked up. Front brakes. New master cylinder and Chuck rebuilt the calipers.

He's heading to the shop at 7am tomorrow (I told ya he's da man) to work on her. I can't believe the calipers BOTH would fail. It surely has to be the MC.

~shrugs~

Stuff happens. And I'd rather it happen here than in the mountains in a couple weeks! Minor setback. Right?

Does she have single or dual brakes?

I know what she's supposed to have but don't know what he did to them...have him put it in neutral & see if it'll roll forward...

Just a thought & I only mention this as it happened to the mechanic that road tested my B the other day. What he found was that my front brakes where locking up because the rear brakes where out of adjustment. This causes the front brakes to work harder and increase the chance of them locking up if the rears drums ain’t doing their fair share.

Just curious, but are you using DOT5/silicone fluid or GTLMA? If silicone, it can swell the seal up covering the bleed hole at the front of the MC. Just a thought.

Sounds like a MC issue to me too,

She has front and rear brakes, I *thought* it was Castrol something or other fluid, not sure. And his cell phone is dead to mention the back brakes being out of adjustment or old flex lines. Think I'm running over there.

Yep, think it would be a good idea to supervise the final check out. Take the camara, you are going to want a pic or two.

But, are they still on a single system or are they on a dual system? If "dual", there's a switch out on the firewall where the brake lines split...if that switch goes bad, it can lock the brakes...easiest way to check is to put car in neutral with engine off & see if you can push if forward...if not, switch is bad.

Re: To brake or not to brake, that is the question

I thought this was an early car... but I s'pose the dual cylinder and bias valve could've been fitted with all the work that was done.

Re: To brake or not to brake, that is the question

I'm fairly certain it's a dual switch. I didn't run over there because I forgot I had to go pick up a tree today with the truck for my sister. Haven't heard anything, I'm not sure if that's good news or bad.

But I'm heading out with Emma, to spend the day on a raft in a pool with a few cold ones.

See how unconcerned I am? Hopefully Chuck will show up at his sister's in Binabox!

Re: To brake or not to brake, that is the question

I'm sure he's got it handled. after all he IS "Da man"
I bet they've got it all figured out already.

Re: To brake or not to brake, that is the question

Speaking of pool noodles. I was at a BBQ last weekend, where the adults turn two younguns loose on each other with noodles. A boy and a girl. It was like watching ultimate fighting with pool noodles. I nearly busted a gut laughing me arse off. The girl nearly kicked the boys butt when the adults stepped in because the noodle fight was becoming personal.

Re: To brake or not to brake, that is the question

Was not the calipers (which we pretty much knew), was not the MC, was a push rod? Anyway THAT problem is fixed. We have another issue, just as crucial going on.
