Hi

Getting my Spitfire MKIII ready for my first time running VRG after 30 plus years with SCCA..

Need to get rid of the slicks and go to a narrower tire..

Two questions,

What is the reccommended size I should run (185/60 13..larger/smaller?)

running stock axles, so obviously do not want the tire "to big and grippy..."

and what tire is reccommended for the series...

Need to mount on a set of original Minilites...

thanks Bob

Bob:

I've been running Toyo 888s (185/60-13) in VRG for the last few years. Many racers see the vintage-stype Hoosier TDs as being "more correct", but they're a lot more expensive and don't seem to last as long.

About half the small-bore guys I race with in VRG seem to run the Toyos or similar "DOT radials". Before the 888s I ran the Toyo RA-1s (also a nice tire, but a bit harder to find). The nice thing abou the 888 is that you don't have to shave them (you're supposed to do this with the RA-1).

You can find the 185/60-13 Toyo 888s ~Here~ (this is about the cheapest I've seen).

I agree with Nial. I'm running R888's on my 948 bug eye, starting my 9th weekend on them at the Wild Hare at VIR.
Previously was on Hoosier TD's and the did NOT give me the life the 888's have.

hmmm.. only thinking of doing one or two events this year (if I am lucky) so I don't want to get into a big expenditure (on top of everything else..

found a set of yokohama A048 for half the price..
rated H.. more than enough for the spitfire..

what do you think...
