Tire pressure

I did not get an owners manual with the car, and have not yet tracked one down for my car. Anyone know the tire pressure that is recommended?

I'm running 28 front/30 rear. Owner's manual said considerably lower, but I think the pressures I'm running are more in line with modern tires.

I just bought some wire wheels with Sumitomo tires from Hendrix tire. They recommend 28 psi front and back. The official handbook recommends much lower. If you are running high speed for a trip, I would bump it up 1 or 2 psi.

From memory, my '73 manual says 22 front and 24 back.

 Wow that is low, even for a '73
I assume the 1980 is not much different, but that just does not seem like enough air.

I guess if you run between 28-32 without uneven tread wear it will be ok. I have 32 all the way around at the moment and the tires look good. However I think I might bump it down a few psi based on the responses so far.

Ignore the owner's manual. That was for tire technology of the 60's and 70's. Tires today are constructed differently, and the correct pressure for your tires will depend on many factors including tire construction, driving style and environmental conditions. The typical MGB runs approximately 28F/30R give or take a couple PSI. I run 29/32 in one MGB and 30/30 in another. The difference is tire size, stiffness, rubber compound and more weight over the rear wheel on one of them (GT versus roadster).

When I bought my MGB, the PO had the tires inflated to 50 front and rear! :eeek: Dropping the pressure to 28f/30r seems like the tires are half inflated.....

28/32 here.
