Tips for paint touchup on 1-2 sq inch areas?

I would like to touch up a few paint spots on my Midget that could use some protection. These are areas with no body rust, but paint chipped off that could lead to it. The car desperately needs a complete paint job, but that's not in the foreseeable future.

Any advice on small area touchups for someone without all the fancy spray equipment?
 
Some paint shops will put your paint color in an aerosol can for you and they also sell a touch up unit with an aerosol adapter and a glass bottle which you mix your paint in.
The aerosol can is nice since there is no clean up and you can easily use it again at another time.

Depending on where it is (ie if it is obvious) I might get a shop to blow in the colour. These companies that do dent repair specialize in small jobs and I suspect you will be happier with the results.
 
New paint wil probably no be an exact match to the paint on the car due to fading and weathering so you need to keep the touch up as inconspicuous as possible. If your color is not metallic you may want to try laying the color in with a brush. Will probably take two or three coats to build it up and then block sand the spot starting with 3400 grit wet and working up to 2000 grit and then buff it. I have used this method with good success with solid colors.
