Tiny clutch cabin leak

Hello friends,

Just noticed a tiny drip on my floormat from the rubber boot where my clutch push rod passes through the firewall. Is this just a matter of renewing a rubber seal somewhere in the clutch master cylinder?
 
Unless something damaged the inside surface of the master cylinder, all you need is a rebuild kit. If the bore has some damage preventing the seal, then its time for a new master cylinder.
 
If indeed your clutch cylinder is shot, an alternative to a brand new one is to send your old clutch or slave cylinder off to Apple Hydraulics and see if it can be sleeved. What you will end up with is better than a new, unsleeved unit.
 
Was that a typo TR6Bill?? Didn't you mean better then new sleeved unit?
 
Historically the clutch master cylinder is made of aluminum. No liner(or sleeve) on the bore surface. It is susceptible to corrosion.

I would presume that apple hydraulics, when they sleeve, the cylinder, apply a different material liner. i.e. copper, brass, steel, iron. dunno as I haven't used their services.

Why, the clutch master is a pretty common part that all of the Monster List suppliers can provide at a very reasonable price. Even Pegasus and other race suppliers have it in stock, it is so common that alot of the Formula racers use the same cylinder.

To help prevent this happening again in the future, remember that the Dot3/Dot4 brake fluid is hygroscopic,i.e., it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere(and car washes, hood washes, etc.) It needs to be replaced(flushed, if you will) at least every two years. Or completely replace it with Silicone brake fluid(Dot5). Not that hard, and a lot more effective to remove the old in the clutch system, as you've got pretty straight hydraulic pathways.
 
I said that a hydraulic slave or master cylinder that is in good condition and can be sleeved is better than a new unit that comes from the manufacturer not sleeved.
