No stupid questions today. Actually, a technical contribution into the site. A big thanks to everyone
who is helping me get my dead TR back to life.

Yes, I am totally lame when it comes to wires and engines.
But I AM an architect and I can refurbish just about
anything. If I can think it, I can draw it and then I can
build it.

So here is a small contribution from Tinster. A step by

Niiiiice. When I'm finished making my timber door rails (top) I'll try the radiator vallance (not in timber!). Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks Craig. I am presently having a new dash board crafted from a local tropical hardwood. The wood craftsman asked me about the door rails tops. I will post a few photos of the new dash when it arrives. Please remember this post since I would love to have matching wood door rails. You could be a big help.

Tomster: No can do because it is a one off project. The .032" aluminum is not flexy enough for my dimensios to be used on other TRs. Each auto will its own have slightly different dimensional tolerances. The position of the radiator in it's mounting bolts would effect the fit, for example.

I rough cut the .032 easily with tin snips and then finer cut and flat filed until everything fit togeter for my specific car. Basically, I used the red felt tip pen to mark the .032 where it bumped into something. Then I shaved away the red line, tried the fit again, marked in red again, etc.

Not as time consuming as it seems. The .032" aluminum is real soft. Also I had the advantage of the rotten cardboard as a rough guide for where some of the bends should be.

It took me a while to get the "notch" concept in my old noggin, since the cardboard has no notches cut into it.

If you have no orig. to use as a template. Get a sheet of poster board from the school supply section of your drug store. Find the 4 screw mounting holes for the top piece and start marking the board in red and cut with sissors. You will end up with a perfect fit and a perfect template to cut the .032" aluminum.
