Tinster's Crypt Car - Any progress???

Anyone hear from Dale and the almost running TR6 lately? I'm getting concerned with no posts since last week. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I just got a phone call from them a few minutes ago. The engine will run but won't idle. I suggested a few things to try, and they'll be getting back to me later. As soon as he can get it to run long enough, Dale will be driving it to his local Brit car mechanic to put into fine fettle.

I think they've taken the last couple of days to have fun, Dale showing Mike around the island.

Mike is catching a plane home today.

That's good news Dan. Thanks for the update.

Whooosh! Am I happy. For a minute there, I thought that maybe Dale had tried that gasoline-in-a-squirt-bottle trick. Not good for a novice. Or even an expert.

Bill

Yupper, Gone Fishin' so to speak.

Mission accomplished! The Crypt Car is now 100% rewired
with Dan Masters' fantastic Power Block wire harness. A
few loose ends with gauge light grounds is all that remains.

Wendy booked a weekend at our favorite beach resort so
Mike could see a bit of Puerto Rico tropical delights
that tourists would never encounter on their own. A well
earned vacation for Mike.

Just got back from the airport dropping Mike off to return
to his normal lifestyle in Georgia.

Yes, the TR6 will run now... but just barely at very high
RPM. Will not start without gasoline sprayed directly into
the manifold.

Since everything electrical is now brand spanking new
except the PO's cheapo electronic ignition, Dan suggested,
I put points back in the car and get a timing light before
I even think about screwing around and adjusting Jeff
Paltech's refurbished carbs in an attempt to get the engine
running smoothly. Sound advice.

But. HEY!!! The crypt Car is getting closer and closer
to driving under it's own power to pose for that "by the
beach" photo Paul has requested!!

A fantastic week spent working on the Crypt Car, touring
our beautiful island and bikini babe watching with Mike.

And even better, I can now offer quazi-help to other
non-mechanic TR6, just like myself, with wire harness installations.

Dale

Dale, make sure that you fit the mounting plate with all of the proper parts on it for mounting the points and condenser back on the distributor. It's probably still in there, but you will need the side connector that fits up into the side of the cap, along with the lead to the negative side of the coil. These connectors are normally taken out when the electronic ignition is installed. If you need any help, I have a complete spare distributor set up with points that I can take pics of and email to you.

Dale,

One thing occured to me after we talked on the pone today. Make sure you have all the vacuum ports either connected or closed off. A vacumm leak will cause the symptoms you're having. Make sure the vacumm line to the brake booster is connected and the booster doesn't have a leaky diaphram. If in doubt, pull the line off the booster and plug it.

Hi Everybody!

Get Braced for a Major Post on AAW about this Adventure... coming soon to a Tube Near You ;-)

Cheers!
Mike

What is AAW?

Hey Paul,

The Crypt Car has returned to the grave mode.
This morning I noticed a large pool of liguid
under the front end.

Gasoline. Running out of the fuel pump itself.
I guess it was being pumped out when Mike Masters I attempted to start the crypt car last week.

So I have to deal with this new issue before we
try to crank up the Crypt Car again.

BLARGH!!!
Dale

Dale,
Other than the delay in getting parts that shouldn't be difficult to remedy. I'm not sure it's worthy of such harsh language as BLARGH. Generally I reserve such expressions for wrenches dropped into hot oil freshly drained from the sump or a lacerated knuckle.
Endeavor to persevere (Chief Dan George)

Dale,

The Crypt Car must have seen Dan and Mikes site and is probably just trying to put itself out of it's own misery by waiting for some friendly spark to come along. I would give the Crypt Car a serious tongue lashing for this unacceptable behavior. Then again...It is Friday the thirteenth today so be prepared for just about anything!

Dale, take your lovely sweetheart out for dinner and definitely stay away from the Crypt for the remainder of Friday, the 13th.

Keep us posted on your progress!!!

Yo Paul,

The Crypt Car is in big trouble. Last Friday was the
ultimatum date from Wendy. Either Mike and I got the
Crypt Car up and running or Wendy was going to have
it towed to the local car crusher. As you know we got
the engine cranked for maybe 20 seconds run time.

I try to confine my working on the Crypt Car to early
morning hours before Wendy gets up or when she is out
shopping. But today she got up at 6:30 AM instead of her
usual 8:00 AM and she "caught me red handed" cranking
the starter motor with no engine start.

Wendy was not amused. It seems there is a car
crusher/grinder that makes house calls. I am afraid
I might go to a work project and come home to find
some red paint flakes in the street and the crypt
space empty.

This is one scary video clip, considering my situation
with the Crypt Car.

dale

Dale,
I showed this video to my car and I think it straightened up.

Bill

That video made me ill! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gif
Dale, I hope that the crypt car avoids that end!
