TR2/3/3A Timing mark.....

I read somewhere that our cars run better if you set the timing at 8 degrees BTC instead of 4 degrees as per the manual or is this just for racing? Would this be a mark at 3/8"BTC on the pulley? Where do others set the mark? Any thoughts?
 
Yes, that would be 3/8" in the direction of rotation from the TDC hole in the pulley for 8 deg BTDC. You can either eye ball it or get a dial back timing light and set it at 8 degrees. Have a good day!
