Well yesterday afterwork I put the midget up on ramps and crawled under the car once again, this time knowing what to look for and where, with thick leather gloves on and the engine running I rubbed the back of the pulley and FELT THE NOTCH. Got out stopped the car, and back under I went. Luck was on my side there it was in all it's glory, right where I could reach it, so grabbing my paint brush I marked a line across to the front of the damper. Connected my timing light, started the car, told my son to twist the dizzy until I said stop. The car is now as 10 degrees BTDC !! (I did this with the vacuum advance still connected from the carb to the dizzy, idle was about 1500)I was about 20 -25 BTDC by ear. Now the idle is steady, and no more hesitation. Now I will re do the carbs this weekend to make sure the mixture is right, I think I m a bit rich, only about 80 miles to the half tank. (and no the chokes are not open, and there are no air leaks) Thanks for the help and the pictures last week.
