Timing cover gasket sealer

I'm getting ready to replace my timing cover and the new gasket from VB looks like thick paper. Is there any particular sealant that works best for this application?

I usually use Permatex RTV. The "copper" stuff. And only a THIN film, not enough to have it squitter out the sides as it's tightened down. Others use the Aviation form-a-gasket in similar fashion. Either will work fine, it's the application technique wot's most important. Clean, clean surfaces. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

A few other things I do to ensure a good seal is to use new hardware (usally stainless), chase the holes with an appropiate tap then use a torque wrench set to 15# to make sure I don't overtighten and distort the pressed steel cover.

Thanks. I did get new hardware as there were no washers and every bolt looked like a different grade. Where did you get your taps?
