I am confused. I've had 2 springs break and now looking thru Victoria British & Moss catalogs it appears that the TR-4 spring is different from the TR-250 spring. Is this correct. The last broken spring I took out appears to be a TR-250 spring.

I can't be certain, but I'd assume a timing chain tensioner for 6-cylinder TR is different from the 4-cylinder.

Possible causes of tensioner breakage that I can think of:
- Poor quality spring (don't use the black ones)
- Groove worn under tensioner
- Worn out & sloppy timing chain
- Poor quality timing chain
- Worn timing gears
- Misaligned timing gears
- Misaligned or bent spring pivot pin
- Lack of lubrication

Yes, Moss Motors shows different part numbers for the TR4 and TR250 tensioners. As a matter of fact, there are two different ones for the TR250.
