If any of the youngsters think that the JC Penney Catalogue was representative of the "real" 70s, grab a current catalogue and thumb through it!!! They are almost caricatures of "real-life"!!!

Hey! The only Brand New off-the-showroom floor car I EVER owned was a '77...wish I still had it! VW Scirocco 0-60 faster than a Vette back then!!
 
Wow, a barrel chair dinning set - now THAT"s what I call class! Hey, I used to have an orangeish jump suit just like that! ANd that lime-green toilet tank set - gotta love it! Goes great with the Avacado Green kitchen appliances!
 
I sent the link to a friend of mine, my age, and his response was " You forget I was a model back then and wore much worse. Luckily no pictures survived".

Wow that's a good one. Me & the Mr's bought the house from her grandparents about 15 years ago. Not only were the appliances all Avacado, there must have been a sale on that color paint. Every room and the basement were Avacado. Oh and the ceiling were Nicotine colored /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/pukeface.gif
 
I was 1. but I remember the aftermath of that catalog....
 
I was 12, and my Mom used to dress me in that horrible stuff. Luckily, I have no pictures of that horrid time.
 
White Nehru suit to HS prom, '68. I'd several suits tailored in Asia in the mid-'70's. By the time "disco" fashion hit I'd reverted back to jeans 'n t-shirts. Lately it's been Nunyas' "old" wardrobe: free convention t-shirts and jeans in 'winter', shorts 'n flips for summer. :shrug:

The song, 'Pink shoe laces" was a hit in '59. My mother liked it so much she bought me, yep tan shoes, and a pink polka dot vest shirt and made me wear it. Fortunately for me, I was growing like a weed, and soon out grew the dang thing. I guess it could have been worse, does "Blue Velvet" come to mind?

I was three back in 1977, but it seemed like a few years before fashion like that completely died out. I had a child's version of the Used Car Salesman suit, and I also remember going through several pairs of Tuffskins and Sedgefield jeans.
 
I had a proffessor in college with one of those green leisure suits....funny thing was he had red hair and beard and was about 5 feet tall giving him the appearance of a leprechan. It was a hoot!
 
I had a student who was looking to buy a Cessna Cardinal RG. He found one in good condition but it was a '77 in Harvest Gold and Avocado Green.

His wife agreed to let him buy it with one condition: It must have a paint job and new interior!!!
 
I don't recall anybody wearing much of that JCPenny's stuff in high school except for maybe a few of the teachers thinking they were cool (Leisure suits - snort! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif yeah right!). Actually I remember my grandmother tried to make us but tweren't never going to happen.

That said I will admit to having worn some of those western style yoke & patchwork shirts back in the day. But I almost always wore Levi's 501's with Wallabies. I also had an old army field jacket (surplus M43) and was know for my rather large collection of Baseball long sleeve concert shirts. What can I say - I was a regular fashion plate. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

As for the gals with their feathered hair back then – I really liked the tight high waisted Ditto jeans (but only nice bum's need only apply /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif ) and a nice halter or tube top. Yummy! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif
 
Go back to the 60's and hippies! Pretty simple stuff.
