My brakes are starting to, well, not brake very well. Everything was new about 8 years ago...hubs, calipers, etc. But I think I need to take it all down again and start over. The rear suspension is completely redone but all the brakes need to come down. Might as well change the front bushes, the Konis are still good as well as the springs. Just repaint and rebush. New pads in the front, turn the disks, check the trunnion. New rack is still good. Rear, new parts. Never ends. But it is fun. Too hot to drive anyway.

Has anyone ever Jet Hot coated the front suspension? Might look good.
 
Looks similar to powder coating which I did. Will work, no problem
 
Probably more expensive than powder coating though.

Bill, did you ever install the larger spindles? That might be a good upgrade for your spirited driving.
 
8 years on a set of bushings with a lot/sprited driving doesn't sound soooo bad Bill. What did you put in 8 years ago?

OE rubber. Want to upgrade to something better. What is best now?

The larger spindle sounds like a good idea.
 
Wow - 8 years on rubber bushings is longer than I would have expected. I think you got your money's worth out of those.

Poly bushings seems to be the near unanimous way to go - let the debate begin on where to source them.

I ordered mine with BP Northwest and they where good to work with and the bushings seemed to be of high quality.

I second that suggestion.... Uncle Jack's upgraded stub axles are a worthwhile purchase. Did it a few years ago. Hey Paul....did you ever install them?
 
Yes I did Bob, when I did the new suspension two years ago. I used the TRF upgraded kit, not UJ's but I think they are the same design.

Tom,

I went 33 years on my originals and they were not too bad when I took them out. I went with the rubber again, which may or may not have been a mistake. Time will tell, as the rubber made today (in China) may or may not be as good as the originals.

Maybe it is a climate difference then, but combination of the heat and how dry it is out here just trashes rubbers bushings in no time flat.

(maybe the SMOG as well...)

My buddy has a media blasting box, a really large one, and I will take all the parts to have them cleaned up. Will decide which finish is best. Jet Hot would be pretty.

I'm waiting on some RG rear springs to try out, gives me an excuse to stay home.

Want some carbs to rebuild while you are waiting on the springs? Ha!
 
Might as well,..but no micro polishing. At the most, I'd what you did to the covers. :cooler:
