I need new tires. Have been driving on an old set of Lee's 165x15's anyone with brand recomendations and size options anyone, everyone thanks 1967 Austin Healey 3000 BJ8

I got a set of Nexens installed at Hendrix and have been very happy with them.
I read on the web that Nexens were a joint venture with Michelin and the Korean company.

It comes down to a mater of taste and price. Since only a hand full of us race or push our Healeys to the extreme edge, drive more than occasionally on nice days, or expect to stress the mileage warranty, almost any tire would prove acceptable. Since, it is my impression that the added adherence benefit of larger tires is questionable (I leave that justification to others), my perception is 165/80s present a longer Healey vision and 185/80s seem to shorten the image.

After determining that I wanted to stick with the 165s, tire longevity was the next factor to consider. If the available Nexens were manufactured within the reasonable present, they would have been my reasonably-priced selection. However, at the time I was purchasing (a few months back), I was told by a company representative that the available 165 USA stock was manufactured 3 or 4 years ago and I found only Vredesteins were manufactured within the year. As a result, I purchased 165/80 Vredestein Sport Classics (H-rated tires have stiffer side walls) at Euro-Tire in NJ and find them quite good.

Hope this helps,

I've used Vredesteins on various cars over the years, have just put some on my BJ7 to replace Cinturatos and they are better, in fact they are very good. Mine are 165/80s and T tracks and in the UK they cost ÂŁ54 ea, which is a third of the price of Cinturatos!

I like the Vredersteins. I have the 185s on wider rims, but for stock rims, stick with the 165s

:iagree:

Kumhos 165/80/15 are back. Small run just made by Kumho and only available from Discount Tire on line. Do not know if after this run if they will go away again like a few years ago. Mounted and shaved, trued and balanced a set for a customer who sent them in last month. Date code showed they were made this year. I like Nexens also. Wheelguy

I have the Kumho 165/80/15s just fitted and have to say I am very pleased with them. They give a smooth ride and seem to grip pretty well.
