Tilt bonnet

I am installing a bugeye tilt bonnet on my 64 sprite. Almost done. I noticed that when I lift the bonnet from one side the flexing in the bonnet caused the other side to rub. Does anyone else have this problem?
 
Yup. What I do to minimize this is to raise the side just enough for me to get my fingers under the bonnet near the center of the car and lift from there.

Welcome to the forum! That's a very common problem on front tilt Bugeyes and Spridgets. Unless you have locating pins or some way to latch the bonnet to the rear you will also get inconsistent closing and gaps. I've bought a couple of different set of front tilt hinges and since none work properly I'll probably revert back the the original arrangement.

I did notice that the tilt kit came with 3/8" bolts but the holes in the plates were 7/16 & 1/2". I could not get it to close consistantly. I bought some 3/8" shaft collars and put them between the plate and pivot bolt. The spacers did have 3/8" holes. All the washers had oversize holes so I picked up 4 washers with a tight fit on the 3/8" bolts. I put the washers on the inside of the grille opening where the bolts come through. After spending a long time getting the adjustment just right, I welded the shaft collars to the plate, welded the spacers to the plate, and welded the washers to the bonnet. Everything is tight with no slop and the bonnet closes in the same place every time.
