Tie rod ends.

Yep, been trying that but since everything has been apart and I meen everything I used 24" Weeeee. LOL and it was still wrong.
 
Well, without having a "base" setup it's on to setting toe-in with "sticks and nails" then. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
 
I used the compass method but put a small spot in the top center depression of the TRE with a center punch for more accuracy. Problem is if teh cnter is a bit different on the new. I need to add a new center punch.
I should be getting the new today and will see how it goes. Might try something different on the other side.
 
Ahh, the old stick and nail trick. Had forgotten that. yep would work just fine. lol
 
Neat trick I learned today if you want to try and save the TRE's. Two bolts hold the steering arm on. Loosen those but leave attached to the TRE. Turn off TRE & count turns. Do what you need to, in this case my rack boots, count same number of turns back on and bolt back on the steering arm.
Piece of cake.
 
Yep should work just fine, I had not thought of that. Hope you put the fastners back on those bolts.
 
I know I'm late to this party, but......

Sorry but you don't need to remove the tie rod ends from the steering arms to change the rack boots. Just loosen the clamp on the boot, where the tie rod come through it, break the jam nut loose that tightens against the tie rod end where it attaches to the tie rod. Hold the tie rod with some vice grips and start unscrewing it, counting the number of turns it takes to get it loose from the tie rod end. Write the number of turns and the side down so you will know how many turns to run the tie rod back into the tie rod end when the new boot is on.

I ran across this tip AFTER I screwed up a tie rod end with a pickle fork that was too big.
