TR2/3/3A Tie Rod Adjustment

I am wondering if anyone can advise me on how far the outer end assembly and the inner end assembly should be threaded into the Tie-rod. I took a measurement when I took it apart but lost it:wink-new:. Seems like it needs to have room for adjustment but also needs to be significantly threaded in for strength, Here are some pics that show how I have them adjusted now, my gut feeling is they are too tightly threaded. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Those look good enough for assembly, to me. After it's all together, you'll adjust them to set the toe-in.

Just make sure both ends are started into the adjustment tube within one turn of each other. If you do that, the rest takes care of itself.

Yep, don't need to make those jam nuts real tight yet -- you'll be turning both rods as you make your first shot at toe in. Looks like they are pretty evenly set now but probably with need to thread out once you do some aligning.

I always set the toe-in myself but even if you are taking it somewhere for an alignment you will be adjusting to get it pretty close before you drive.

I used the procedure outlined in the manual and it seems very close. Made a thin piece of steel the 7.68 inches long (like a mini-ruler) to make measuring simple. Cheers, Mike

Mahalo brahs! I got it all back together, how and why I got the inner tie rod installed upside down is an unfortunate occurrence, but better to have caught it now before the body is on the car. At first I thought I had a problem with the steering box... Mike I think the dimension I was looking for was in the manual all the time so thanks for showing that reference to me, I need to remember to refer to the manual more frequently. Randall I am going to try adjusting the toe in today there's some old threads that I found that provide some pretty good suggestions. I really appreciate all the assistance, THANK YOU!

I used the string method. Easy and cheap, but a little time consuming setting the strings. And, be careful you don't trip over them or you have to start over again.

You can google how to do it. There are plenty of explanations. I set my toe in at 1/32". Worked out well.
