Hi ,
When I am depressing the clutch my idle decfease and car eventaully stall, I believe
I just need to replace thrust washers . I have seen on Youtube for a spitfire or TR4 that your just need to remove main bearing cap No2, use a copper wire an push the upper thrust washer around the journal of the crankshaft

I was wondering if I can do the same wiith my BJ8...Without taking the engine out, I don't think I need to remove crankshaft, I just need to remove oil sump, then oil pump then main cap bearing...I did it on my corvette 66 .

I think it is fairly common that your engine will decrease in speed when the clutch pedal is depressed. If the engine "eventually" wants to stall I would check the state of tune of the engine and the tune of the carbs before I did anything else. If carbs are too rich, it will load up and slow the engine to the point of stalling.
 
To answer your question,,, yes you can change out your Thrust Washer from under the car with engine in place.

I would however, measure the end float first. I have seen many, and I mean many thrust washers fitted backwards in so called re-built British engines.

When this happens and its caught soon the situation can be fixed easy.

I worked on a Bugeye Sprite with a re-built engine that had .034" end float. The steel structure side of the thrust washer was rubbing against the crank which ruined the crank, bent the rods which caused significant scraping on the bores.
