Throwout bearings all the same?

Ran into an issue while preping my overdrive for installation. The new throwout bearing does not fit with the clips into the arm however it will fit without the clips installed. On closer inspection the old bearing has enough material machined off to allow the clips to fit.

Was there a difference between the non od and od throwout bearings? This is for a 77 to 80 od trans.

No difference. Sounds like you either have a bad bearing or arm. The previous bearing could have been machined to fit the arm, so there's no telling which is correct unless you source both parts elsewhere.

Suspect the "newest" part first. If the old yoke fit and the new one doesn't there is reason to suspect the new part. The clips are thin. What? 0.020" each? If the new housing won't fit with clips attached, you have a bogus part.

I have no way to measure the width of a known good T/O housing here but my guess is the new replacement has been made with "slop tolerance" in excess of the original.

Checked the measurements
Old 3.07"
Powertune the new one 3.09"

Old one does not look to be modified.

I'll be sending that one back to moss with a note.

I heard of folks having to grind them a bit to make the clips fit, good ole 3rd world country quality control.
