Three wiper blades or two

Can anyone tell me what is the correct number of wiper baldes for a 1970 MGB. I have three on mine and have to replace the rubber on them but all the information I have looked at for the "70" B has two blades. Was the third an added feature for the left hand drive models?

I ~think~ there were three from 1968 forward... not positive but the change was '68 or'69. At the time when the Fed began to mandate how cars would be built. Something like the minimum swept area of a windshield in sq/in. An MGB likely didn't even HAVE that much total windshield area in sq/in. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh, and they are 10" blades

yeah.... kinda fun to walk to the counter with 3 single blades... instead of the standard 2-pack... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Well, I know I'm no longer an MG owner, but I distinctly remember my '65 had three wiper blades - like Nunyas I enjoyed the counter geek's reaction when I laid three wiper blades out /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Weren't a '65 then, Raymond. Nope. Someone would have had to go to a great deal of trouble to make it that way, IMO. Your MG should likely have had pull style doorhandles as a '65 too, IIRC.

Interesting - I wonder what the deal was then - it was chrome bumpered, three wipered, had the 5 main engine (I had to rebuild it after it broke every ring in the cylinders), had the early dashboard and push button door handles. It was titled and licenced as a '65, and every part I ordered for a '65 fit.

Interesting. Did it have a toggle switch for the headlights or a push-pull one?

Sorry, that's one detail I don't recall off-hand. I sold the car to a guy from Nashville 12 years ago.

Digging in the archives of my memory [cue Indiana Jones theme], I believe that the headlight switch was a push/pull type. The man I sold it to seemed happy with his purchase - he got a downdraft Weber, headers, a Moss performance cam and a Delco alternator with the car. What he didn't know is that the tranny was about to go out and the rear springs were broken and clamped together - I was very broke back then and had no more money to fix the beast.

The push-pull switch was started in late '66 cars, IIRC. Another mystery!

How about side marker reflectors? Though those weren't until '69 I believe.

WHere's Tony when ya need him?!?!

Side marker reflectors introduced in 1969.

Triple blades introduced in 1969 (except for the GT's of course).

Don't know about the switch and no references at this computer.

Pull switch was in '67's I've owned and not in '66's. Not hard evidence but just what I've personal recollection of. I'm mildly curious, so we'll get to the "meat of the matter" by-and-by. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yup. That's what prompted this whole discussion. Very curious that a titled '65 would have three arms. I think it was reconstructed and retitled, but there's no way to tell now.

Change point from 2 to 3 blades was mid-'69....however, that doesn't keep a '70 from having them....remember, MG built based on VIN & we assigned years...& even some later cars looked like early ones as they continued to use up stock!

So, do you have a '69 or a '70?

Point taken. The "year of sale" could be the year on the title in either case here. Chassis number and build date would be the "final arbiter" here.

Again: just curious about this. Certainly not trying to create a "firestorm" over it!
