and two steps back /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif I was backing the midget out of the garage to clean the floors decently and begin putting things back on the car. When my door suddenly swung open in the blink of an eye and caught on an old wooden pallet that I had leaned up against a wood stack. CRUNCH!. I am fairly sickened. It bent the A pillar in in the middle and spread it out near the door and bent the door in on the edge near the a pillar. I managed to get the door bent back out with a large screwdriver and a rubber hammer to tap with and I don't think I will have to repaint it. It hardly shows, but the a pillar needs work /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif Pictures to follow. The first thing I should have put back on should have been door latches /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

I know the feeling. I pulled a shelf down on my cars last year. I finally fixed my midget this spring, but the sprite is still pretty beat up.

Hang in there. Sooner or later, all the spridget stars will align and all will be well.

Did about the same thing about a year and a half ago, I'm still a little mad at myself. When I pulled the BE back into the garage, I got down by the door and was examining the damage, my wife on my shoulder, and I had to explain to her that she probably needed to go shopping without me. Talk about not being happy. Thankfully, I said no bad words, but I sure was thinking them.

I have been hammering and tapping for the past hour and used duct tape around the apillar and took it all back down to the metal.

Be careful with that tape. Carefully remove it ASAP. Use multiple layers of masking tape instead.

I removed the duct tape trevor and it seems to be ok. I used bondo and filled in the void and smoothed it all out pretty well with 60 grit dry. Tomorrow I will go to a finer wet grit and see how it goes.

Kim, get some of that blue tape to put on the paint, it will come off nicely even after some time.

So sorry to hear. But, trust me, you're not alone. It may not be much consolation but I'd bet we have all made similar mistakes. Soon it'll all be done and the problems forgotten though.

Ok, its done again, all but putting the door back on and sanding and polishing the clearcoat where the overlap is. Man, getting that metallic to blend right is almost as hard as painting the whole car. Its far from perfect, with the light just right you can make out a little line in the basecoat. Also I have another sag in the clear. It was not there until about 5 min after I finished spraying it. Its not bad though and I should be able to sand it out. I went ahead and put all the door lock and latch, handle stuff on the passenger door and will do the driver's door as soon as I put it back on. I need to take a reckoning of all my stuff, I was gonna put the vent window in the passenger door and could not finf the new robber seal for it. I am fairly sure I ordered them at one time.

Kim, make sure you install the check straps! Without them, the door can still go far enough forward to do damage.

I have new check straps but don't I need to put the carpet in first or does it go around it? Guys, it been a long time since I tore this car all apart and I am gonna be asking a lot of dumb questions. Asking for pictures as well.

Kim, the check straps are above the carpet, on the A pillar. Go ahead and install them now.

All back together now and the door latches and locks installed, tail lamps and windshield wiper drives. New lock in the trunk and started on the headlights. I wnet through a bunch of my stuff I had ordered and I see that I am going to have to make another order, but I'm gonna wait until I have done all I can do before I order because their might be more. I still have a gob of stuff that I can do. My next big chore is going to be putting the dash back on. I can't remember where all the littl metal braces at the bottom of the dash go.
