The seller tells me that this bugeye was stored 15 years ago in his barn. It was put up with a coat of cosmoline. He states that other than a few small items the car is complete. Does it appear to be worth the $5500 asking price?

The car was delivered to San Fransico in 1960 and has "very little rust". I havent seen it in person, these are comments from the seller.

If there is NO rust and it has no previous body work, then I might go as high as $2500, but then be prepared to sink another $3000 into it.
 
For that kind of green you can find a decent running example. If yer looking to buy it based on the photos only I would be suspicious. No engine pics and the interior is covered. If he is looking to get a premium priece he should have taken the junk off the top of it. Title is not a huge problem in most states. Just have the vin checked with law enforcement before agreeing to anything. $2500 sounds fair.
 
Sorry, I am too close with a buck to spend even that much. It may be a good start if it is as rust free as advertised BUT complete paint job, some chrome work, complete interior, old weathered tires, brakes, electrics, hydraulics, ad infinitum. I can see putting more than 7K into it and still only having a
'nice' driver. My bid would be $1500-$1700. Bob
 
I'd agree with that ... for what you're getting, its really only a $1500 car. IF it was in 'running' (and driving, of course) condition and had a rust free body, then maybe $3000. The costs for paint, hydraulics (a huge pain in the butt, in my opinion), etc, adds up to well over the purchase price in either case. Depending on how picky you are, 7k is a modest sum for additional investment.
 
Just be patient, something always turns up, and you might even get it for less ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
