I don't know exactly how he figured it out but it actually has 1962-64 Chevy fenders and (narrowed) bonnet which he found out fit the curve of the firewall exactly.

engine detuned to about 880HP - was over a 1000 but, a bit squirrely apparantly. :D
 
That looks like a mighty fine build. Did he do all the work himself?
 
Some, when I first saw it he was doing most of it, but, he has had health issues so he has had help in more recent years. Pretty much all friends though - not a bought rod.
 
You nailed it, it's for drag racing, each lever is the next gear. It's basically several planetary gear boxes tied together. Each shifter goes to one box and shifts it. Then you proceed to the next box and shift it, etc.
