Nice TF! Do you know what color it was painted? I can't tell if it's yellow or beige.

The TF with the raked grille and headlamps is one of my favorite MG's. By the looks of the bonnets you had at least two with you.

Well, there are some non-concours things on that TF...plus that top is just 'sloppy'!!

It was not yellow.

You know those things have the most intresting gas guage. It is kind of a stick thing that fits down in the filler and stores someplace.

Boy was it hot, I just may not do that again.

Jack-Your car is closer to being concours than that TF. The color looks like a TC owned by Mike Love of the Beach Boys back during the 70's. I like TF's, but not that one. Those white walls have to go.

The white walls were an original offering - however, those are non-stock, aftermarket wire wheels....not even of the period of the TF but more like MGB chrome wheels!!! That alone should counter the nonexistant fire extinguisher!

The color is Ivory (though it looks more like Sequoia Cream in the photo)...it should have a red or green interior - looks like it might be red.

Plus, the fitment of that top just sucks!

& imbecillic judging like that is another reason why I rarely do car shows! If you don't know the car, don't judge!

They were judgeing engine room, interior, underneath, and paint.


I know, I know but my club is a sponcer of this event so I kinda need to be there.

However, that said I am getting smarter and will work on a few problem areas so I don't beat myself next time. Heck a Bugeye should beat a TD hands down, LOL.

Gives me something to do over the winter.

As much as I love "wide whites" and plan on using them on my bugeye, I don't care for them with those chrome wires and color. But hmmm, I was thinking about doing my Bugeye in beige.

This is pretty typical of multi-marque car shows. Judges (in this case Model T and Model A people) can't be expected to be familiar with the originality issues on cars other than their own makes. This makes the competition more Show and Shine than Concours. Jack deserves to be proud of his car in this situation.

At Conclave 2008 with about 200 beautiful Healeys, judging was peoples choice unless you wanted you car concours judged. Those cars (very few) were judged against tough standards, not each other, and received appropriate awards. Not as anal as the Corvette crowd but pretty tough.

TF's didn't come from the factory with wire wheels...they were a period aftermarket item...MGA wires are the closest thing to the period ones but most folks use MGB or MGC wires....oh, they were painted, not chromed! But, somebody who knows better might correct me on this....

But, multi-marque car shows are judged on the quality of the finished product not if they are "correct". So they are looking for neatness and attention to detail (not accuracy).

Sort of like judging how consistent an archer can hit the same spot with his arrow (even if it is not the bulls eye)

According to Anders Clausager "The Original MG T Series", most of the TFs for the American market came with wire wheels (6463 out of 9600).

Tony, I'm not expert enought to correct you, but I've never seen a disc wheel TF here in the states, all were wire wheel cars. The TDs were not offered with wire wheels and those are definitely conversions, but I thought the TFs were optional from the factory. A friend in GB recently sent me a copy of a Safety Fast poster with a disc wheel TF featured, first one I've ever seen even a photo or drawing of. I do agree about the chrome wires though, the first one's I'm aware of coming from the factory were options on the MGB in the early 70s. https://www2.snapfish.co.uk/slideshow/Alb...50/t_=132619650

I stand corrected about wires on TF's...my bad....I wasn't positive about whether or not they had wires that's why I posted it the way I did...several I've seen here in the US don't have wires & the factory, I thought, didn't put them on - but the distributor might've....I dunno!

However, 72-spoke wires weren't around when the TF came out! When I look at the aftermarket wires of that period, they're more like the 60-spokes on MGA's or the earlier aftemarket spokes on TD's

Regarding the "sloppy" top, I thought they came that way from the factory in the 1st place. Isn't the idea of restoration to reproduce the original build warts and all? To me anything more gets into the resto-mod area and that's a very slippery slope. Where do you stop with your "improvements"? Nothing wrong with improving a car, but then it should have no place in a concours. I am thinking of modern paints, chrome where it doesn't belong and yes, a top that is made from German fabric fitting better than it ever did when it arrived off the boat from Blighty.

Should be 48 spokes painted silver. 72 spokes - wrong, chrome - wrong. Also, the tyres appear to be radials and that's wrong and you already pointed out the whitewalls. But, I wouldn't fault a model T guy for not knowing any of that. That being said, if you gave me the car, I wouldn't change anything except maybe the whitewalls.

Marv - thanks for ther correct spoke info...give me the car & I wouldn't change anything either....however, if my TD was in a concours class with that car & it placed higher than me, I'd be challenging the judges!
