Wedge Thought exercise - a wedge as a daily driver?

So I've been reading some period reviews of the TR8, and all of the reviewers seem down on the brakes. Are they really that bad? Is there anything that can be done to improve them?

Most of us have already remedied that. Very easy to do. TSI and Woody and a couple of other cars have adaptable bigger brakes.

Only because you are going much faster.

Mine are stock and fine even for hard use, upgrade would be nice but don't feel it is a must.

Don't think I would go for that if your looking for a driver.

If I had the space, it would fit my two-year timeline!

I do like that color on a TR8 (or what is left of it).

It looks like a lot might be missing under the bonnet?

Just curious, are the nuts and bolts on the TR7/8 mostly metric?

What Paul means is...
The motor no, the ancillaries of the motor prolly so
The body yes

Thanks!

I was reading the "TR7 TR8 Rover 3500 Fuel Injection" information manual, and it says to use 91 octane for the TR8 (it doesn't specify RON or (R+M)/2, though it is a NA spec manual). But is also lists the compression as 8.13:1.

Is premium really needed in a TR8? Or could the manual be talking about 91 RON, which would be more like 87 (R+M)/2?

I ran mine on regular until I changed the heads

The brakes on a TR8 are not that bad. Provided they are actually working. The rear wheel brake cylinders like to freeze up. Then you have no real rear brakes and the owner complains about braking and adds expensive new front calipers(Sorry Don) .

I re-did my whole system a few years ago. Braided lines, new pads, shoes, cylinders, seals, master Cylinder, etc. Once the rear brakes were right, the car stops just fine with a small amount of nose dive. A TSI proportioning valve might help that, but I am OK as is.

As for a daily driver? Well, take care of it and change fluids, wash, wax, repeat and it should treat you fine. I drive mine almost every day it is not raining or snowing. 22 years I have owned it and now have 180,000+ on the still original drive train. I think the cam is just round now.....

Sure mostly metric...and not mostly English

The highlight is you will have every metric & english wrench & socket known to mankind once you have worked on one of these

True dat - and I'm pretty sure I had some not known to mankind as well! :jester:

When I bought my TR8 I ran a few tanks of 85, 87 and 91 each through it and tracked the mileage averaged over the tanks of each different octane. The extra mileage gained by the higher octane of 87 justified the extra 10 cents a gallon, but the extra mileage achieved with 91 octane did not justify the extra cost for it. Other than mileage, I never noticed a difference in the way that the engine ran. Mine is a carbed engine with 8.13cr.

Thanks again for everyone's input. I'm trying to work out a way to get one sooner rather than later, and I have my eye on this one:

It appears to be very clean, original and complete, though I'm no expert. So to the experts here, do you see anything concerning with this car? I am hoping that the side moldings are easily removable.
