General TR Those Darn Throttle Shaft Bushings [TR4-6]

I still remember trying to install the "correct" nylon throttle shaft bushing from the Roadster Factory, I am a decent mechanic/fix it guy, and I am also very stubborn and persistent, but there was just no way those things were going on until I had trimmed them to the point where they were probably no better than the old ones that were in there in the first place. Finally gave up, I welded up a mount on some bearings for mine, and it has worked fine, but this solution looks so much more elegant, and would likely last forever, you would have to tap a couple small holes in your car to attach, but I think it would look pretty good installed, the beauty of it is you position and attach the bearing after the shaft is in place, actually my solution works the same in principle, but doesn't look near as pretty, nice price too.

If anybody is looking to replace and wants to give it a try would be interested in hearing about how it works, also I believe 3/8" is the right diameter but I would certainly double check before I ordered any.

Y'all must be talking about accelerator shaft bushings....not throttle shaft bushings or seals

When I did mine 8 or 9 years ago I wanted a way to change the bushings without having to remove the shaft or go under the passenger side of the dash to finish the job. This is what I did. It was easy and has worked flawlessly for 50,000 miles and counting.

You got me, and of course it won't let me edit. Obviously lots good ideas on how to do get around trying to fit those hated little nylon pieces, I don't usually lose battles like this, get her done eventually, as I said I am not the world's best wrench, but I am pretty stubborn and persistent, and willing to try different methods to get the same thing done, but those nylon pieces are a royal pain, it doesn't take an engineering degree and a slide rule (oops dating myself) to figure out a better way to do it, good ideas all, hopefully will save future generations of Triumph restorers some frustration.

I ended up cutting a slender wedge shaped piece out of the bushings and squeezed them into the hole. They were still so tight the missing section looked like a hair.
If I ever need to replace them during my ownership, I'd be tempted to do it that way again.

I did something similar to the amazon link when I restored my TR3. I used two different size bores for the self aligning bearings, as I had the connector ride in one of the bearings. I bought the bearings from McMaster.
