Ok, I know this is getting old....believe me I know, but at about 1:15PM Centrail Time, the forum was hacked again. Someone managed to FTP into the server and uploaded a bunch of malicious files, which in turn infected every single forum file in the system. I had to go through each and every directory (and there are MANY) and delete the uploaded files (and there were many). Some of these files were in sub-sub-sub directories, so if I did not go into every single directory, I would miss one. I also uploaded my backup files for the forum itself, to ensure that all the altered files were corrected.

The good news is, I have an IP address and it is here in the US this time and I am going to contact the ISP who owns the address tomorrow. This is really starting to get old. Ok, I know my politics might offend some (who think they know what they are), but have I done something to tick someone off? If so, for crying out loud, I'm sorry!

Basil

Bas - glad you got it....should we send someone to his house?

Oh, site's real slow right now....may be residual effect.

I really hope it's the person's real IP address. I doubt it but there's always hope. I'd love nothing more than to find out who it is. And if it's someone from our hobby, god help them at the next car meet.

Yes... when I got home from work yesterday and logged in, immediately Mcaffee showed at least 2 trojans, so I logged back off until thismorning.

Update: The web site (free20) that the code seems to have been trying to re-direct people to is owned by someone in China. The IP the seems to have uploaded the files is from a company who provides blocks of IPs to other ISPs. They are located in South Carolina, but the actual IP address could belong to anyone anywhere. They think (and I agree) that most likely scenario is that someone's computer was hijacked without their knowledge and is being used to spread this "stuff". They are going to track down whomever owns the IP and let them know.

When you get an address let us know. We'll visit people along the chain door to door until we find the originator, even if it takes us to Bejing!

now that'd be one heck of a rally! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bayou le Batre, alabama - the shrimp capital of the Gulf Coast is primarily run by Vietnamese...they own most of the boats & do most of the shrimping.

We've got members in New Jersey, if you get my drift. Maybe they could make an offer that couldn't be refused.

Please keep us posted. I have always wondered how easy/hard it is to trace someone down and nail them.

I can track it down usually to a town and state, but they can't tell me who it is. My only recourse would be to contact law enforcement and they would have to get a court order.

Basil

And that will not get the actual perp. They're likely in eastern Europe or China someplace.

Maddening. But it's the nature of the internet beast so far.
