This might explain why we haven't see as many gophers on our property lately. Spotted this young Gopher snake on our side porch. This is a picture if him (or her) getting away from us, down in a crack in the driveway. Estimate he was only 2 ft head to tail.

This particular species is especially good to have around for rodent control.

Snakes have become almost extinct around here. Also frogs and turtles. The lack of biodiversity is heartbreaking to an old timer like me who remembers playing with snakes, frogs and turtles as a kid.
