This isn't the Albuquerque Journal

Went out to pick up the paper from the end of the drive and to my surprise, it wasn't the Albuquerque Journal we subscribe to. Instead, we got the New York Times! Obviously a mistake by our carrier.

You are not in Kansas anymore!
our paper carrier does that too, but we never received a New York paper.
As you can see, it's the "National Edition" and has New Mexico's weather in the upper-right. My guess is, the Albuquerque Journal also distributes this paper and we ended up with a neighbor's copy. (We didn't get our usual Albuquerque paper at all).

It never occurred to me that someone would deliver more than one paper. When I was a "paper boy", the Washington Star was what I delivered. BTW, looks more international than national edition.

It actually says "National Edition" at the upper right. Also, I suspect they tailor the contents for each state - note that just to the left of $3.00 it says "Printed in New Mexico."

Didn't know about recent individual home delivery, but known for years a lot of presses ran more than one masthead. WSJ has been printed in multiple areas for years. Can't figure The Gray Lady to be any different. the Albuquerque Journal likely prints it and distributes, making "extra" money doing so (pun intended).

In the upper left the NYT says :

In our local rag it ~should say~ "All the news that Fits we Print"

Can't say that about our local paper. 20 years ago, our paper was very thick, and the Sunday edition was even thicker! Over the years, our local paper has become a shadow of its former self. It is super thin these days - feels more like a flyer than a news paper.

IMHO, in spite of the decline of print media, there's something about the tactile sensation of holding what you're reading that's tough to eliminate completely.

I think you can make that assumption about most local newspapers... technology has made them a thing of the past.

I agree 100%. Ditto for books. I have purchased some books that are readable via my Kindle App, but I much prefer actually having the printed book, with real pages to turn.

Yea, I for years got the local paper for the national and international news. Grew up reading it since my dad was big on knowing what was happening round the country and world. But it has reached the point where each section is only 3-4 front/back pages during the week and much of that is local human interest type stories. So I get Sundays only now, really just for the TV listings and comics and leave the news for the various news sites online. I do miss the feel of the paper and the slight ink stains on my fingertips when done.

Wife likes the crosswords! :p

Just got off the phone with ABQ Journal - they will deliver today's paper tomorrow along with tomorrow's paper. It was an honest mistake. Usually our carrier has been very good about our deliveries.

Years ago after moving to Pacifica, I subscribed to the weekly Pacifica Review.
They offered a free subscription to the San Jose Mercury News, which I declined.
It's about five pounds of mostly advertising and no news of interest to me.
As soon as my subscription started, the Mercury came daily.
I asked them to stop and they said they would, which they never did.
To me it was just a waste of resources, even though I just dumped it into the recycling bin,
After months of trying to stop it I just gave up and cancelled my subscription.

We stopped subscribing to our local paper years ago. It just was worthless. I understand now they don't even print it here but contract that to the Tulsa paper. Now I get most most of my news from the internet 'cause, you know, "they can't put anything on the internet that's not true."

I miss having the serious news, paper, magazine and so on, to spend time going through. My dad and maternal grandmother get the credit, or the blame depending on your viewpoint, for making me one of those who wants to know what's going on everywhere and know where everywhere is. Alone with enough history to grasp many of the reported problems. But anymore with most being online you have to have i think a good background pile of knowledge to be able to sift the wheat from the chaff.
