This is just getting freaky !!!

Read the instructions again Greg. It says DO NOT TORQUE THE STUDS INSTALL FINGER TIGHT OR YOU WILL CRACK THE BLOCK .
I didn't see that reference in any of my manuals. Under torque settings on last page of the general data section (Bentley shop manual) it lists cylinder head studs @ 400 in/lbs. Dave Russell seemed to think finger tight would be OK though.
 
Don't torque the studs. Put them in finger tight. Use some oil on the threads.

We have learned some lessons over the last 50 years since the factory and Bentley manuals were first published.
