I got a little time this afternoon and cut out some bad steel on Statler and was finally able to remove the fuel tank. I have to admit I did not think the tank would be ok, but I did not think I would find a lug wrench in it!

Hey Paul
Now you have a good reason to get a new alum. gas tank!
The metal don't look to bad, But you will be using more of my old body!
P.S. I have your racetorations parts still. Let me know when you have time and I would like to stop by and see "Statler"

At least it doesn't look too rusty.

LOL

Thanks again Dan! I think the car would have been parts without that rearend (or it would take me 5 years to fabricate the patches). I'm on call for the next 2 weeks so I can not predict my schedule. I'm hoping to have some real progress by November as my uncle is coming over. He helped me about a year ago remove the motor and he also took it apart. When I get the patches welded in I'll remove the car from the frame. I'll give you a ring. I want to hear about your progress and that 5 speed transmission.

I'd rather rebuild/source a new tank than not have a plan/solution for what the tank sits on.

I'll by passing through early/Mid Nov, and while the my labor isn't skills the price is right...

Would love to have you stop in. Maybe Dan could swing over at the same time. I could see a front end rebuild being a good project for a morning. Dan said with everything ready it was a one day job.

Reminds me of the story about workers placing empty Pepsi bottles in the quarter panels before final weld, back in the day's before robots built cars!

I once had a Pimento Red Spitfire 1500. I once found several brazing rods in the trunk, painted the same Pimento Red and well stuck to the trunk floor!
